I want to share with you 5 tips for traveling during Covid-19. After months of lockdown while the Covid-19 pandemic spread throughout the world, we have started to see some relaxing of the travel restrictions that were put in place to help stop the spread of the virus. And while the virus is far from being over, with precautions and protocols in place, many countries have started to reopen and allow travel once again.
These recent changes have many wondering and asking, “Is it safe to travel now?” The truth is, it depends. If you are willing to follow the protocols and procedures put in place to help keep you safe while traveling, then you should be fine. So whether you are looking to get out and explore as soon as possible or if you are just starting to think about your next trip, my top tips for traveling during Covid-19 should help put your mind at ease.
Here are my top 5 tips for traveling during the Coronavirus pandemic:
1. RESEARCH YOUR TRIP.
Restrictions and protocols for traveling and quarantine are different in every country and are constantly changing. Check the rules of your home country and your destination for traveling and for local rules during your trip on official government websites before deciding to travel. Check to see if your destination is considered low risk and what measures are in place to help lessen your chance of virus transmission.
2. COMPLETE THE REQUIRED COVID-19 DOCUMENTATION.
If traveling within the US, check to see what requirements your home state has, as well as your destination. Most countries also have forms that you need to complete before leaving and/or entering the country. Check what needs to be completed and by when. Also, check if it needs to be done on paper or online. Some countries will require you have proof of a negative Covid-19 test completed within a certain amount of time before your flight.
3. PURCHASE TRAVEL INSURANCE.
Getting sick when traveling is stressful and you want to be prepared. Compare policies to determine what the best plan is for your needs. Talk with a licensed insurance provider and ask questions about your specific situation. Many companies have specific exclusions for pandemic related claims. Cancel for any reason coverage may be an option to be added to your plan as well.
4. WHEN TRAVELING DURING COVID-19, ALLOW FOR EXTRA TIME.
Allow yourself more time at the airport and understand that protocols are in place to keep you as safe as possible. Queues may be longer due to extra checks taking place. Make sure you allow plenty of time (at least two hours) to get through the airport and security screening.
5. BE FLEXIBLE AND ENJOY YOUR TRIP.
One thing you can be certain of, traveling during Covid-19 will look different than traveling prior to this pandemic. Make sure you wear a mask, as they are required throughout airports and on all flights. Also maintain social distancing at all times. The new TSA policy also allows you to carry up to 12 ounces of hand sanitizer in your carry-on.
These 5 tips for traveling during Covid-19 will make pandemic travel so much easier. So now after months of not being able to get out and explore, enjoy your trip!
