Located at the Baja California Peninsula’s southernmost point is a stunning resort town that combines the best of Mexican culture with remarkable seaside escapes. Just a quick flight from the US will land you in a tropical paradise surrounded by brilliant blue waters. From the beaches to the desert, Los Cabos seems to have it all. Below I’ve outlined five can’t miss places to visit during your trip to Los Cabos!
1. El Arco and Playa De Amor
At the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula is the Arch of Cabo San Lucas or El Arco. This rock formation provides the most brilliant natural training venue for cliff diving.
Playa De Amor is the north-facing beach on Land’s End. Flanking both sides of the beach are the granite rocks from El Arco. Playa Del Amore is a cove that features calm waters, but a walk to the other side of the beach will bring you to the roaring surf of the Pacific Ocean.
2. Cabo Pulmo National Park
Cabo Pulmo is one of the most successful national marine parks in the world and arguably offers the best diving and snorkeling in Baja. Because it is home to one of only three coral reefs on the whole West coast of North America, Cabo Pulmo National Park is one of Baja California’s most precious protected marine areas.
Surrounded by undeveloped desert and a stunning mountain range, the pristine beaches of Cabo Pulmo Park give way to a shallow bay that cradles one of three living reefs (the only hard coral reef) in North America. Estimated to be almost 20,000 years old, the coral reef here is considered the oldest in the American Pacific.
3. Mission San José del Cabo Church
The most historical landmark in all of Los Cabos is the Colonial-style parish church in San José. Originally founders established the mission near the beach. It was, however, later relocated some 5 miles inland to what is known as San José Viejo (Old San Jose), as this was considered a safer location.
In 1735, five years after the mission was founded, there was a revolt among the local Pericú culture, and the missionary, Nicolás Tamaral, ended up being sacrificed. You can still visit the mission’s church today and see the tiled mural above the door depicting these events.
4. San José del Cabo Art Walk
Explore the vibrant culture of Los Cabos with a trip to the art district. Gallery openings, artists in attendance sessions, and live performances, are just a few of the things you can expect when you walk down the street. There are also plenty of hip wine bars and delicious farm-to-table restaurants lining the lively streets for a fun evening out on the town!
One of the best ways to acquaint yourself with San José del Cabo’s thriving art scene is to attend a weekly evening art walk from 5 to 9 every Thursday from November to June. At this time, shops and galleries open their doors to both curious travelers and serious art curators to explore.
5. Los Cabos Marina and Whale Watching
The bustling marina is a hub for adventure seekers, foodies, and shoppers visiting Los Cabos. From the marina, you can leave on whale-watching tours, kayaking excursions, and luxury boat trips.
Oceanfront eateries serving ceviche and tacos sit beside lively bars on a spacious boardwalk. The high-end boutiques and casual stores are a great place to go to beat the heat!
